Important Update from your WLTA Board of Directors

WLTA Members,

Unfortunately, we are living in unusual times so the WLTA Board of Directors met today to address a few important items:

  1. In response to COVID-19, the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (WDFI) is in the process of creating emergency guidelines, allowing Remote Online Notaries (RON) to be utilized from other states which already have approved notaries. We anticipate the guidelines being issued today or tomorrow and will distribute to you on receipt.
  2. We are working with the WDFI to “fast-track” the process for appointing and approving Wisconsin-based RON providers.  Again, once we have that information, we’ll share with you.
  3. Whether these RON transactions are insurable depends on your underwriter. Please consult with them.
  4. On Monday March 16, 2020 the leadership of the Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association confirmed that “…. all 72 registrars should already be accepting documents electrically or remotely signed and notarized…”.  Excellent and we thank the Registers for being partners in this trying time. But if for some reason your local Register is reticent to record a RON signed document, please contact the WLTA leadership to review.
  5. Due to the restrictions on group gatherings, WLTA is cancelling our Spring Conference. Refunds will be made to all who have registered.
  6. Please stay tuned for more information on our Fall Convention, and other updates as they occur.

Stay safe everyone.
